Encryption helps in protecting the privacy of an email message. An encrypted message can be read only by the recipient who has the private key that synchronizes with the public key. Microsoft Outlook Supports Two Encryption Options:

  • Step 1:S/MIME encryption.
  • Step 2:Microsoft 365 Message Encryption

If the user uses the S/MIME encryption, both the sender and the recipient should have a compatible email application that supports S/MIM. But this option is not available for free webmail users such as Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, etc.If the user uses the Microsoft 365 Message Encryption, then the user doesn't need to install certificates and can send encrypted messages to any email recipient. The only need is the sender should have Microsoft 365 Message Encryption.

Steps To Add Encrypt Button In Outlook 365:

You need to install an encryption certificate for your email service. There are many vendors from where you can purchase the encryption certificate. Once you have installed the certificated, begin the steps to enable the Encrypt button in the Outlook 365.

  • Step 1:Open Outlook on your computer.
  • Step 2:Click the File menu at the top.
  • Step 3:From the list of options you have to choose Options.
  • Step 4:You will now see the Outlook Options screen.
  • Step 5:On the left panel, click on Trust Center.
  • Step 6:In the main panel, click Trust Center Settings.
  • Step 7:Now, click on Email Security in the left panel.
  • Step 8:In the mail panel, under the Encrypted email section, select the check box beside Encrypt contents and attachments for outgoing messages.
  • Step 9:Click the Default Setting drop-down menu and choose your encryption certificate.
  • Step 10:Click on OK and your encryption certificate name will be shown in the Default Setting field.
  • Step 11:Once the settings are done, you have to restart Outlook.
  • Step 12:Now, compose a new email message.
  • Step 13:To encrypt your email message, click the Options tab and select Encrypt.
