  • Open the Thunderbird protonmail application on your computer.
  • Go to the Settings section by right-clicking on the blank area and selecting Settings.
  • Scroll down the Settings window and select the Add Mail Account option from the drop-down menu.
  • Now, a dialog box prompting you to enter your account credentials such as email address and password will appear on the screen.
  • Enter the account credentials in the given fields and click Done.
  • Now, if you have entered the credentials of a custom domain, then you’ll receive a warning message. Skip the warning message and enter the account credentials correctly and click Done.
  • On the Mail Account Setup dialog box, you’ll be asked to confirm a security exception. Confirm it and click the Confirm Security Exception button.
  • Now, the Thunderbird application will try to detect the newly added account’s mailboxes and all other information. It may take a maximum of 5 minutes for this process to complete.
  • Once it is done, configure your account’s default settings manually.
  • Click the Tools menu.
  • Select the Account Settings option followed by Copier & Folders.
  • Navigate to the Drafts and Template section.
  • Select the Local Folders option in the “Drafts” Folder on drop-down menu and click OK.
  • Now, if you wish to disable your client’s spam filter, then navigate to the Junk Setting section and disable it.
  • After disabling it, compose a new email message and try to send it.
  • If you receive a Send Message error, then click the OK button and confirm the security exception for the SMTP server.
  • After confirming the security exception, send the email message.
  • If the configuration is done correctly, the Successful message will be displayed on the screen.
