Outlook 2016 Cannot Connect To Imap Server? 

  • Follow these troubleshooting instructions to solve the outlook 2016 cannot connect to IMAP server issue. 
  • First, check if your device is connected to a stable network.
  • If not, connect your computer to a stable network and then try to link Outlook 2016 to the IMAP server.

Steps to enable the IMAP option on your Gmail account

  • Navigate to the Gmail account login wizard.
  • Enter your Gmail account credentials in the given fields.
  • Click the Sign-in button to fix the issue outlook 2016 cannot connect to IMAP server.
  • On your Gmail account web access page, click the Settings icon, followed by Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  • Locate the Enable IMAP option and click the checkbox beside it.
  • Ensure to click the Save Changes button.
  • Now, launch the Outlook 2016 application.
  • Click File > Add Account > Manual setup or additional server types > Internet E-mail.
  • Choose the IMAP option from the Account Type drop-down menu.
  • Type imap.gmail.com in the Incoming mail server field and smtp.gmail.com in the Outgoing mail server text box.
  • Fill fields below the User Information and Logon Information section with correct data.
  • After that, click the More Settings button, followed by the Advanced tab.
  • Enter 993 in the Incoming port field and 465 in the outgoing port field.
  • Click the Save button.
  • To check if the IMAP server configuration is done correctly, click the Test Account Settings button.
  • Now, go to your Gmail account access page.
  • Click the profile icon, followed by the My Account option.
  • Scroll down the screen; click Sign-in & security.
  • Select the Connected apps and sites option.
  • Locate the Allow Less secure apps option and enable it by clicking the radio button beside it.
  • Click the Save Changes button.
  • Now, launch the Outlook 2016 application on your computer.
