Issue: Outlook Crashes When Sending Email

Rarely you might have come across an issue where Outlook crashes when sending an email. It might happen if you are using a POP3 email account and Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox in the same profile. However, this issue could also occur if there is no Exchange Server mailbox folder. This page deals with the solution to fix the issue where Outlook crashes when sending email.

To solve the Issue, update your POP3 email account to reference a valid folder.

  • Close the Outlook application completely.
  • Open the Mail application and go to its control panel. 
  • Navigate to Show Profiles and click on it.
  • The Mail dialog box page will open with the profiles configured.
  • Choose your Outlook profile that has the POP3 account.
  • Now, click on Properties.
  • Go to the Mail Setup dialogue box.
  • Now, click Email Accounts. The Account settings page will open.
  • Under the Email heading, select the POP3 account.
  • Now, click on Change Folder, which is on the lower left side of the screen.
  • The New E-mail Delivery Location dialog box will appear on the screen. Select a folder to which you want your new email messages to be delivered. By default, it will show the inbox.
  • After choosing, click OK.
  • Click the Close button twice and then click OK. 
  • Now, start Outlook and send an email. Check if Outlook crashes when sending the email.
