Issue: Thunderbird Outgoing Mail Not Working

Mozilla Thunderbird is an email client in which you can manage multiple email accounts and it provides access to features like saved search options, quick search folders, message grouping, labels, advanced message filtering, and more. If the Thunderbird mail application on your computer fails to send outgoing emails, follow the below-mentioned troubleshooting steps to fix the Thunderbird outgoing mail not working issue.

Solution 1: Outgoing mail settings

  • On your computer, confirm that you have a standard Internet connection and launch the Thunderbird client.
  • Choose your account from the lists of accounts.
  • Click the Tools tab and select the Account Settings option from the drop-down menu.
  • In the Account Settings window, click the Outgoing Server (SMTP) tab from the left-side panel.
  • On the right-side pane, verify whether you have properly configured the outgoing server settings.
  • If necessary, change the settings by clicking the Edit button. 
  • Once completed, try sending a test email to check if the problem has been resolved.
  • If the Thunderbird outgoing mail not working problem persists, head to the next solution.

Solution 2: Verify the SMTP server

  • Launch Thunderbird on your computer and click the Tools menu.
  • Select the Account Settings option from the drop-down menu and click on your email address from the left-side panel.
  • Check the username and email address.
  • Check whether the correct outgoing mail server is selected in the Outgoing Server (SMTP) field.
  • If necessary, change the domain to fix the SMTP problem.

Solution 3: Delete the SMTP password

  • On your Thunderbird email client, click the Tools menu and select Options from the pull-down menu.
  • In the Options window, click on the Security icon and select the Passwords tab.
  • Uncheck the Use a master password checkbox to delete your Outgoing password.
  • Click OK and set a new password (if necessary).
  • Next, try sending a test email to check if the problem has been resolved.
