How To Create Protonmail Free Account?

ProtonMail is a free email service provider that offers ProtonMail Free account with limited features.If you wish to secure your ProtonMail account, keep reading the instructions given below.

1. Enabling Two-Factor Authentication

  • Before you enable the two-factor authentication on your ProtonMail, install an authenticator app such as Authy, Google Authenticator, or FreeOTP on your mobile phone.
  • On your computer, open the default browser and visit the official ProtonMail sign-in page.
  • Enter your login credentials in the required fields to access your Proton Mail Free account.
  • Click the Settings icon at the top and select the Security option from the left-side panel.
  • Click the Enable Two Factor Authentication button underneath Two-Factor Authentication.
  • A QR code will be displayed on the screen.
  • Next, launch the authenticator app installed on your mobile phone and select the option that says QR code.
  • Scan the QR code using the authenticator app to continue with the Two-Factor Authentication setup.
  • You can also enter the key code manually by clicking the Enter key manually instead link (to authenticate from multiple devices).
  • You can now see the two-factor passcode on your authenticator app.
  • Enter a new password in the Enter your password field and enter the two-factor passcode (6-digit code) under Enter two-factor passcode.
  • Now, you will be asked to enter the 6-digit code upon logging in.

2. Use encrypted email

Usually, messages are stored on ProtonMail servers in the encrypted format. The messages are transmitted in the encrypted format between the servers and user devices. You can quickly send an encrypted email to a non-ProtonMail recipient by following these steps.

  • Log in to your ProtonMail first and then compose a new email.
  • Click the Encryption button at the bottom-left corner of the compose box.
  • Enter a password & password hint (if necessary) and click the Set button.
  • After entering the necessary details in the compose box, click the Send button.
  • A generic message will be delivered into the recipient’s mailbox with a unique link to open the encrypted message.

3. Use a strong password

If you have been using a weak password, modify it to a stronger one. To do so, navigate to the ProtonMail Settings page.

Go to the Password section and click the Change Password button to set a new password.

Doing so will make your Protonmail free account more secure and also prevent it from being hacked.
