How to Use Protonmail?, Also Download and Installation Settings

ProtonMail is a web-based email service that protects your message archive with zero access encryption. It also offers end-to-end encryption for message transmission. ProtonMail released a desktop app for ProtonMail users. You can quickly set up your ProtonMail account in the desktop app, similar to Outlook and Thunderbird email clients. For detailed instructions to set up and use a new account on ProtonMail, keep reading below to know how to use Protonmail.

  • On your Windows computer, open the default browser after ensuring that you have a standard Internet connection.
  • Visit the official ProtonMail sign-up page and click the Sign Up button.
  • Click the Free button in the drop-down arrow and choose the Select Free option to create a basic account with limited features.
  • In the Create Your Account section, enter the username you wish to use for your ProtonMail email address in the Username and domain fields.
  • Under the Password tab, enter a password for your account and retype it to confirm.
  • If necessary, add a recovery email in the Recovery email section.

  • Your recipients from different email service providers can send you the encrypted emails as long as their email service provider uses inline OpenPGP, and your recipients have your public PGP key.
  • To get a copy of your public PGP key, sign in to your ProtonMail account, click the Settings icon, and select Keys from the left-side panel.
  • Copy the fingerprint link in the Contact encryption keys section.
  • Upload the public PGP key to a key server (MTI PGP public key server) to share your public PGP key for allowing the email programs to fetch it.
  • If you wish to turn on Authentication Logs for your ProtonMail account, click the Settings icon at the top and navigate to the Security tab.
  • Select the Advanced option in the Authentication Logs section.
