Usually, these kinds of issues occur due to an incorrect e-mail address or address format. Also, the Outlook application will not recognize your e-mail address if the Auto-complete option is turned on.If Microsoft Outlook is not recognizing your e-mail address, then try the following troubleshooting methods to resolve it.

Troubleshooting method

Method 1: Re-enter the e-mail address

  • Step 1:Check whether you have typed in the correct e-mail address.
  • Step 2:If not, remove and re-enter the correct e-mail address.
  • Step 3:Now, try to send the e-mail address.
  • Step 4:If Microsoft Outlook doesn’t recognize the e-mail address again, then try the next method.

Method 2: Turn off Auto-Complete

  • Step 1:Launch the Outlook application installed on your computer.
  • Step 2:Click File > Options > Mail.
  • Step 3:Navigate to the Send Messages section.
  • Step 4:Locate the “Use Auto-Complete List to suggest names when…” option and select it by clicking the checkbox beside it.
  • Step 5:Click the OK button.

Method 3: Manual send the e-mail message

  • Step 1:Compose a new e-mail message.
  • Step 2:In the To field, type the full e-mail address of the recipient.

  • Step 5:Now, if the composed e-mail is sent successfully, then the issue is resolved. Otherwise, try the next troubleshooting method.

Method 4: Use Outlook in safe mode

  • Step 1:Open the Run dialog box.
  • Step 2:In the command field, type outlook /safe and tap Enter.
  • Step 3:Now, your computer will boot in safe mode.
  • Step 4:Launch the Outlook application.
  • Step 5:Try to send an e-mail message. If the composed e-mail message is sent successfully, then the issue occurs due to a problem with add-ins added to the Outlook application.

Disabling the add-ins

  • Step 1:Go to the Outlook application's File menu.
  • Step 2:Select the Options option followed by Add-ins.
  • Step 3:Disable all the enabled add-ins and click OK.
