Outlook 2016 IMAP Folders Not Syncing

Many users have reported that they face the email sync issue in Outlook 2016. Mostly, the issue has occurred after the Windows update. IMAP is the protocol used by email client applications to receive incoming emails. Incorrect IMAP settings can cause trouble in the email sync issue. Solution-1: Repair the account

  • Launch the Outlook 2016 app on your computer and select the File menu from the top.
  • Select Info from the left panel, choose Account settings, and again select Account Settings.
  • When the Email Accounts window opens up, select the email account in which the IMAP folder doesn’t sync and you click the Repair button.
  • Next, the Repair Account window will open. Verify all the email settings and click Next.
  • Outlook will start a repair process and the message regarding the repairing process will appear on the screen.
  • The internet connection on the computer should be active. If not, Outlook cannot perform the repairing process.
  • Once the repairing process is completed, again check the mail settings and click Next.
  • The Test Account Settings box with the status of the tasks will appear on the screen.
  • Click Close to exit the window and select Finish.
  • Restart the computer, again open the Outlook 2016 app, and check if the emails are in sync.

Solution-2: Change the root folder path

  • On the main interface of the Outlook 2016, find the email account on the left side panel.
  • Right-click the email account and select IMAP Folders.
  • Click the Query button, select the folders you want to add, and click the Subscribe button.
  • After adding all the essential files, click OK.
  • Now, you can view the folders you added below the email account. If the folders are not present, right-click the email account and select Update Folder List.
  • Finally fix the Outlook 2016 IMAP folders not syncing issue.
