Solved: Outlook 365 Cannot Connect To The Exchange Server

Outlook 365 is the Microsoft subscription-enabled app with advanced features to access your emails. If you cannot send or receive emails, then there are chances that Outlook is experiencing problems with connecting to the Exchange server. It is critical to fix the connection error immediately, and in the meantime, the error can be annoying if you are in a hurry to send emails. In such cases, verify the email settings in the Outlook app. Also, check if Outlook is Online. If the problem persists, keep reading the instructions below to overcome the error due to which Outlook 365 cannot connect to the Exchange server.

Outlook 365 Cannot Connect To The Exchange Server

Solution 1: Repair the Outlook profile

  • Step 1:Start by launching the Outlook app.
  • Step 2:Next, click the File tab at the top-left corner.
  • Step 3:Select the Info option from the left-side panel and click on Account Settings twice.
  • Step 4:In the Account Settings window, click the Email tab and choose your account profile.
  • Step 5:Click the Repair button and carry out the on-screen prompts to repair your Outlook profile.
  • Step 6:After completing the process, restart Outlook and check if the problem has been resolved.

Solution 2: Check the Microsoft Exchange server connection

  • Step 1:Open the Outlook app and click the File tab.
  • Step 2:Select the Info option and click on Account and Social Network Settings.
  • Step 3:Click on Account settings and select your Exchange account.
  • Step 4:Check if the indicator icon is denoted with orange color. If so, wait until the problem with the Exchange server is resolved automatically. Now, Outlook 365 will connect to the Exchange server automatically.

Solution 3: Configure the connection to a proxy server

  • Step 1:In the Outlook app, click File and select Info.
  • Step 2:Select Account and Social Network Settings –> Account settings.
  • Step 3:Choose your email account and click the Change button.
  • Step 4:Next, click on More Settings to open the Internet Email Settings window.
  • Step 5:Go to the Connection tab and select the Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP option below Outlook Anywhere.
  • Step 6:Click on Exchange Proxy Settings and specify the proxy server.
  • Step 7:Input the URL to connect to the proxy server.
  • Step 8:Make sure that the Connect using SSL only option is selected.
  • Step 9:Also, ensure that the Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate checkbox is selected.
  • Step 10:In the Proxy authentication settings section, select NTLM Authentication from the drop-down menu.
  • Step 11:Click OK and check if Outlook 365 can connect to the Exchange server.

Solution 4: Turn on troubleshooting logging in the Outlook app

  • Step 1:Launch the Outlook app and click the File tab.
  • Step 2:Select the Options tab from the left-side panel.
  • Step 3:In the Outlook Options window, click the Advanced tab from the left-side panel.
  • Step 4:Select the Enable troubleshooting logging (requires restarting Outlook) checkbox.
  • Step 5:Click OK and restart Outlook.
