The Operation Failed Because Of A Registry Or Installation Problem

Microsoft Outlook users may get this ‘The operation failed because of a registry or installation problem’ error message when changing or creating rules and alerts in Outlook. This error may also occur after installing updates. To fix this error, follow the quick steps given below.

Solution 1: Repair Microsoft Office

  • On your Windows computer, launch the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows + R shortcut keys.
  • Type ‘aapwiz.cpl’ in the Run dialog box and click OK to open Programs and Features.
  • Otherwise, click the Start menu and type ‘control’ in the search panel.
  • From the search result, double-click the Control Panel app and click the Programs and Features tab in the Control Panel window.
  • Next, choose the Microsoft Office product from the displayed list and click the Repair button at the top.
  • In the pop-up window, click Repair and follow the on-screen prompts to repair your Microsoft Office programs. Doing so will fix the Outlook installation problem.

Solution 2: Open Outlook in Safe mode

  • If you have already opened the Outlook app, close it.
  • Press the Windows + R shortcut keys to open the Run command box.
  • Type ‘outlook.exe /safe’ in the Run dialog box and click OK to launch the Outlook app in Safe mode.
  • If you can run Outlook without any problem in Safe mode, then the problem is with Add-ins.
  • To disable the Add-ins, click the File menu available at the top-left corner of the screen and select Options from the left-side panel.
  • Click the Add-ins tab and select COM Add-ins underneath Manage.
  • Click on Go options next to Manage and select all the add-ins in the displayed list.
  • Click OK and launch Outlook in normal mode to check if the ‘The operation failed because of a registry or installation problem’ error appears.

Solution 3: Recreate Outlook profile

  • Open the Control Panel app first and then select Small icons from the View by drop-down menu.
  • Click on Mail and select Show Profiles in the Mail Setup window.
  • Click the Remove button in the Mail window to delete your current profile.
  • Click OK and launch Outlook.
  • Add your account and complete the setup with the help of the on-screen prompts to fix the problem with your Outlook app.
