Solved: Outlook Not Connecting To Server

Microsoft Outlook is one of the famous email clients known for its interface and advanced features. But, you might have seen few Outlook users saying that Outlook is not connecting to their server. This isn't a bigger problem. It might have occurred due to various factors on their computers. If you end up with this problem, go through the steps given below to resolve Outlook not connecting to server issues with Microsoft Outlook 2016.

Outlook Not Connecting To Server

Case 1: If Outlook is offline

  • Step 1:On your Windows computer, launch the Outlook app.
  • Step 2:Go to the Outlook menu and click the Send/Receive tab.
  • Step 3:Ensure that the Work Offline option is not checked. In case it has been marked as offline, select the Work Offline option to reconnect.
  • Step 4:For Macintosh, click the Outlook menu and deselect the Work Offline option from the drop-down list.

Case 2: Outlook running Microsoft Exchange Server

If you are running Microsoft Exchange Server and if Outlook is not connecting to your server, then these steps are for you.

  • Step 1:Launch Outlook and then click the File tab.
  • Step 2:Select the Info option from the left-side panel and click on Account Settings.
  • Step 3:Click the Email tab in the Account Settings window and check if there is an orange indicator icon next to your Exchange account. If so, wait for the Exchange server connection issue to get resolved automatically.
  • Step 4:Otherwise, select your Exchange account in the Account Settings window and click the Change button.
  • Step 5:Check the mail server settings on the POP and IMAP Account Settings page.
  • Step 6:Click on More Settings and go to the Advanced tab.
  • Step 7:In the Outgoing server (SMTP) section, select SSL from the Use the following type of encrypted connection drop-down menu.
  • Step 8:This should bring back your Exchange server connection. Move on to the next steps to solve Outlook not connecting to server issue.

Case 3: If no troubleshooting steps resolve your Outlook issue

  • Step 1:On your Windows computer, press Windows + R to open the Run command box.
  • Step 2:Type 'appwiz.cpl' in the Run dialog box and hit the Enter key to open the application manager.
  • Step 3:Locate and right-click on Microsoft Office.
  • Step 4:Select Change and then click the Repair button.
  • Step 5:After repairing Outlook, you won't face the server connection issue once again.
  • Step 6:In case the Outlook not connecting to server issue is occured, reinstall Outlook.
