Outlook is a highly popular email client, known for its efficient and reliable performance. But many users seem to face issues while using Outlook. Sometimes, you may not receive emails from senders. If your Outlook account is not receiving emails, carry out the steps below to fix the Outlook not receiving emails issue.Before we get to the methods to troubleshoot the issue, let’s see some of the reasons behind it.

The following are some of the common reasons behind the issue at hand:

  • Step 1:Outlook’s server could be down.
  • Step 2:Your email account would not have been properly synced with Outlook.
  • Step 3:Any malicious software on your system might be the cause.
  • Step 4:Your emails might get stored in your Spam folder (not in the Inbox).
  • Step 5:A firewall on your system could be blocking the emails so the Outlook not receiving emails issue may occured.

Troubleshooting Methods:

NOTE: The following methods apply mainly to Outlook 2016. These instructions might also work for certain other Outlook versions. The methods will help find why Outlook is not receiving emails and the steps to fix it.

Method 1: Try checking your Junk folder

To start with, check your Outlook Junk folder. There is a possibility that you have received the email, but Outlook has marked it as junk. So, you are unable to see that email in the Inbox. To resolve this issue, carry out the instructions given here:

  • Step 1:Open the email that is in the Junk folder.
  • Step 2:Click the Actions menu and then locate the Junk E-mail option. From here, choose the Mark as Not Junk option from the displayed menu.
  • Step 3:The above procedure will move the email to your Inbox. From now onwards, Outlook will not mark the incoming emails as junk for your email id. You will be able to receive your emails directly into the Inbox.
  • Step 5:You have now seen one method of solving the Outlook not receiving emails problem.

Method 2: Check If Outlook’s Service Is Down

The problem might occur if the Outlook service is currently down. To check this possibility, navigate to Outlook’s Service Status page. On this page, check Outlook’s current status. In case it is marked red, it means that Outlook is not available currently.

Method 3: Check if your Inbox is full

  • Step 1:In case your Inbox is full and there is no sufficient space, Outlook cannot receive any emails. To fix this problem, go to the appropriate folder and delete all the unwanted emails from that folder. You can delete the emails from the Inbox, Junk, and/or any other folder.
  • Step 2:You can also opt for the Sweep feature in Outlook to resolve the issue. This feature will delete all the old emails from a sender (automatically).

Method 4: Sort The Filters

Outlook allows us to set various filters on the Inbox. This facility lets us prioritize our emails. You might have set a specific filter on your Outlook Inbox, but forgotten about it completely. To rectify this problem, follow these simple instructions:

  • Step 1:Navigate to the Outlook Inbox filters and check whether you have any unnecessary options there. If yes, remove that option.
  • Step 2:When you are inside the Inbox, click on the Filter menu.
  • Step 3:Go to the Sort by option and then choose Date. This action will sort your emails by date. By doing this step, you can view all the recent emails, which might have been blocked by the filter. This is one effective method to rectify the Outlook not receiving emails problem.

Method 5: Try Checking The Blocked Users List

At times, you might have added a sender’s name to Outlook’s blocked users’ list. So, you will not be able to receive any emails from that sender. To resolve this issue, make use of these instructions:

  • Step 1:Navigate to Settings in Outlook.
  • Step 2:Choose the Mail option from the left pane.
  • Step 3:In the main window, select Junk email.
  • Step 4:Now, all the email ids that you have blocked will be displayed. Click on the Delete button that is adjacent to the email id you wish to unblock.
  • Step 5:The above procedure will remove that particular sender from the blocked users’ list and the Outlook not receiving emails issue is fixed.
