Outlook Cannot Connect To Outgoing Smtp Server

The Outlook error would generally read as: "Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing SMTP server. " When you come across this error, you need to check the email account settings in the Outlook email client.If you are using the Microsoft Outlook version 2010 or later, perform the following steps to resolve the outgoing SMTP error.

  • Open the Microsoft Outlook 2010 and click on the Tools tab in the menu bar of the application to fix the issue outlook cannot connect to outgoing SMTP server.
  • Under the Tools tab, select the Account Settings option.
  • The Account Settings window will open, showing you the User Information, Server Information, and Logon Information.
  • Click on the More Settings button that is next to the Logon Information section.
  • A new window with four tabs on top will be opened. 
  • Click the Outgoing server tab and click the checkbox that reads My Outgoing Server requires Authentication, and click on the OK button to proceed to the port configuration step.
  • Go to the Advanced tab and check to see if the port numbers are configured correctly.
  • Incoming port number: 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP)
  • Outgoing port number: 587 or 465
  • Encryption method: Select TLS from the drop-down menu.
  • Click the OK button.
  • Click Save changes.

If the above configuration didn't work, you could change the outgoing port numbers to see if the Outlook connects to the SMTP server.
